story of my life

Hey, I’m Chelsea Udoye, an NYC based performer! I was originally born in New York then I grew up in Edison, New Jersey. My family moved as I was going into eighth grade to Marietta, Georgia. I somehow, someway, found my way back to Jersey. I guess the North & I just get along! On a technicality, my theatre journey began in third grade. My teacher decided to put on a production of Bunnicula, about the vampire bunny of course. As soon as I made my acting debut as Chester the Cat, I knew nothing would fuel my fire more! I, as do many, didn't realize until much later that performing was my endgame. In high school, the supportive connections I made in Georgia opened my eyes to how valid my connection to theatre truly was! James & the Giant Peach was my first musical so I believe that sealed the deal!

As a person of color, I strive to be a person of comfort—a person who makes others breathe a little easier, feel seen, and feel safe. In a profession and in a world where people who look like me haven't always been welcomed with open arms, I want to be a reminder that we belong, fully and unapologetically. On stage or off, I work to infuse empathy, openness, and warmth into every room I enter. If my presence can help others feel at home in their own skin or find the courage to share their own story, then I know I'm doing the work I'm here to do.
